Ministry of Tourism expects hotels and guesthouses to reopen in August

Phnom Penh: The Ministry of Tourism expects more hotels and guesthouses and accommodation services to reopen their business across the country to welcome local tourists who plan to travel during the holiday season 5 days in August 2020.

Ministry of Tourism spokesman Top Sopheak told Propertyarea.asia on July 21, 2020 that in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis, many hotels and guesthouses have been affected ,but during the end of April, May and June, some hotels and guesthouses reopened, especially in Kep, Kampot and other provinces after the recovery of tourists.

“Although hotels and guesthouses are not 100 percent open, some guesthouses and hotels are gradually reopening in tourist destinations, especially Kep, Kampot and Koh Kong,” he said.

“During the holidays next month, we expect more tourists to travel, and many hotels and guesthouses will be ready to reopen,” he said. “We do not know the percentage, it depends on the state of development of Covid-19 in the country.”

Ho Vandy, an adviser to the Cambodian Association of Travel Agents, also said that allowing the government to take a leave of absence in the future reflects a lack of fear of the non-spread of Covid-19 in the community.

“This holiday will bring about socio-economic growth through people’s spending on fuel (transportation), food (food) and accommodation services in both hotels and guesthouses,” he said.

Ms. Chhay Sivlin, President of the Association of Travel Agents of Cambodia (CATA), said that the holiday announced by the Prime Minister in August, many tour companies and agencies are preparing. Advertise to provide organizing services for the people who are on vacation.

“The tour packages that the company has been promoting for sale now are in the mountains (northeastern part of the country), while most Cambodians enjoy nature and hiking, as well as beaches and islands,” she said.

Separately, Mr. Tea Seiha, Governor of Siem Reap Province, recently chaired a meeting with a group of operators to prepare accommodation and tourist sites in Siem Reap for tourists during the Royal Government allows government officials. Workers will take five days off work in August.

With this holiday, Mr. Tea Seiha asked the business owners who own hotels, guesthouses and restaurants in Siem Reap to be ready to receive tourists, although the situation of international tourists has not increased, however, must adhere Guidelines of the Ministry of Health to participate in the prevention of Covid-19 disease.
